Amidst the shopping for holiday gifts we can’t forget about the birthday celebrations, too! If someone in your family has a December birthday, it’s time to start thinking about how you want to celebrate. Some families prefer to do something unrelated to the holiday season when planning their child’s party, but it’s also fun to embrace the holiday theme with parties — and make it memorable for her friends, too. Scroll for festive Christmas-themed birthday party ideas!
1. Throw a Christmas cookie or gingerbread decorating party.
Invite a few of your child’s friends over to your home one morning and decorate some delicious Christmas cookies or (pre-made) gingerbread houses! This is likely already on your December to-do list, and it will feel extra festive when you throw a birthday celebration into the mix.
2. Host a neighborhood Santa visit.
Younger children look forward to seeing Santa every year — how fun would it be if Santa visited them on their birthday? There are many local companies that allow you to hire “Santa” for events. Invite family and neighborhood friends, and ask Santa to personally deliver a special birthday present when he arrives.
3. Delight with a Nutcracker Ballerina Party.
Check local ballet studios. Many offer this and will even bring a Sugarplum Fairy to teach a mini class!
4. Host a holiday tea.
An afternoon Christmas tea is such a special tradition, especially for mothers and daughters. Invite a few of your daughter’s friends to join you for Christmas tea at a local hotel or boutique, or even your own home — and don’t forget a special birthday treat with dessert!
5. All aboard! Throw a Polar Express themed party.
So cute for little ones! Rent a little train that takes them around your neighborhood, but make it Christmas-themed! Bring hot chocolate and have children dress in PJs like the book! You could have fun stops planned — maybe even one to see Santa!
6. American Girl St. Lucia party.
Based on the classic Kirsten series, throw a St. Lucia’s Day party and have girls make wreaths for their heads and dolls, with books for favors. You could do this with or without the dolls!
7. See a Christmas production with friends.
Many families plan to attend performances of The Nutcracker or A Christmas Carol, or go see The Polar Express every year at their local movie theater. Gather a few friends and make it a birthday event!
8. Carriage ride to see Christmas lights!
This would be fun for older girls to get hot cocoa and take a carriage ride!
9. Winter wonderland party.
Rent a snow machine in the front yard!
10. Take Christmas treats to school.
Ask your child’s teacher if you could bring Christmas-themed birthday treats on your child’s birthday. Go the extra mile and plan a fun craft or activity for the whole class!
11. Hang a special birthday stocking just for them.
I’ve long touted my love of Bauble Stockings — the small, handmade stockings that are a lovely tradition for gifting (you can read all about them here!). To celebrate those with December 25th birthdays, Bauble Stockings offers the most darling birthday stockings. Slip a special gift, gift card, or note and hang on the tree year year after year!
The great news is that there’s certainly no shortage of events in December, so the possibilities are endless! Do you have any other fun Christmas birthday party ideas for celebrating December birthdays? Tell me in the comments below!
