Our youngest child recently turned three years old so it was the perfect time to do some research for our gift guide. We’ve have gift roundups for one year olds and two years olds so it was fun researching (and polling our readers!) to find the best toys for 3 year olds!
When I look to purchase a toy, I generally want it to be something the child can enjoy for many years, is something that stirs creativity (an open toy), or is something that will keep them occupied for long periods of time. All of the toys below fit into one or more of these criteria!

For her birthday my daughter received a balance bike, the ice cream cart (adorable!) and the Sneaky Squirrel game. We already have several of the toys on the guide from our other children and I can tell you that they are GREAT toys! You really can’t have enough Magnatiles and the Schleich animals are a great toy to give each birthday or Christmas. My daughters and her friends collect the dog breeds. They last forever and can be passed down to grandchildren!
Need some more ideas: our Preschool Gift Guide has more fun toys, gifts and books and our Timeless Gift Guide has the really special gifts. Plus, see our roundups of the best doll houses and baby dolls. We also have a year-round under $15 birthday gift guide that is perfect for birthday party gifts for classmates and friends.
If you need a last minute gift, our Top 100 Classic Children’s Book List and an Amazon gift card is a great gift you can send via email or print immediately and give.
What do you think are the best toys for 3 year olds? We love hearing reader reviews and feedback. It helps so much in putting our guides together!
Lee- ima grandmother who’s daughter in-law told me about you and I love all your ideas and post. Keep up the good work. Love everything you say.
Thank you so much for your kind words! And thank you for following along!
