We’re all having to get creative with our time at home right now, but thanks to the internet there are so many wonderful resources at our fingertips! Today I’m sharing my favorite destinations for online classes and tours for adults, teens and children. There is everything from hand-lettering classes to guitar lessons that can enrich our lives while we shelter in place.
Brit and Co.
Brit and Co. is well known for the variety of online classes they offer. You can find a fun class to take for any interest you have, but there are a handful that you won’t need to go outside of the house to find materials for. Head over to Brit and Co. to find classes for sketching, hand-lettering, intro to coding, cake decorating, iPhone photography and iPad illustration. I’m sure your tween or teen would love this class on nail art, too! Use code SELFCARE to get their classes for FREE until 4/9.
Exercise Classes
It’s so important during this time to remember to stay active, however it will probably look a lot different than what your used to. It’s time to get creative and find resources to help you do that. CorePower Yoga is offering a selection of online classes for free here. Their C1 class could even be done with your children! The Nike Run Club is a free resource offered by Nike to track your running and receive coaching that adapts to you. Choose from a variety of at-home work outs from Gold’s Gym being offered for FREE during this time. Finally, make sure your littles are staying active with this online PE class. Over 3.5 million tuned in for his first 30 minute class on Monday! Such a fun break in your day with your kids!
Google Arts and Culture
Google Arts and Culture is an online platform where you can explore the world’s most prominent museums, like the MoMA, the Uffizi, the Van Gogh Museum, and their unique collections. I can’t wait to do this! Many of the museums are also offering unique online exhibits for online patrons. This is perfect for students who are studying these pieces in school or just as an accompaniment to their school day at home. Bring up these photos on a phone or tablet to read about them and even zoom in to see all the details.
Guitar Lessons
Fender is offering 3 months of online guitar lessons to get you through the quarantine. With all this time, it’s perfect for you or your family member who has always wanted to learn but has never had free time. Head to their website to redeem your free code, but hurry because this offer is only for the first 10,000!
Hibiscus Linens
Hibiscus Linens is the best source for the most beautiful hand embroidered pieces. They host a variety of classes throughout the year, but right now you can take their Hand Monogramming Class online. You will learn eight different stitches and receive a lettering alphabet. Such a fun course to do with your kids when they need a break from homeschooling.
Masterclass
Have you heard of Masterclass? It is an online resource where you can learn all sorts of hobbies from the best of the best. Take a makeup tutorial with your daughters from Bobbi Brown, set your kids up with a basketball lesson from Steph Curry, or take a cooking class with your whole family from Gordon Ramsay. This is a subscription service that can be cancelled at any time.
NASA Space Center Tour
How fun is this? Download this app onto your phone or tablet and let your future little astronaut walk through NASA’s space center in Houston. Plus, use their virtual reality features to “walk on the moon” and watch a space shuttle launch.
Online Aquariums and Zoos
While most aquariums and zoos are closed right now, there are a handful that have live webcams to watch the animals from your home. Take a tour with your kids through the halls of Monterey Bay Aquarium and around the famous San Diego Zoo. This is great for kids learning about these animals at school and a fun way to make those lessons more entertaining.
Art Lessons
Kennedy Center Artist-in-Residence Mo Williams leads a doodling class every weekday at 1 pm ET. This article has more recommendations.
Language Classes
All this time at home might be the perfect time to learn a new language! Babbel is an online program for learning different languages and right now they are offering free access to all students (including college students!).
