McCrea's Candies

Sharing some fun things and thoughts that didn’t make it into other posts this week including a fun budget buy, favorite thing I received in the mail, favorite bras, thoughts on motherhood, and a few great sales.

Best Thing I Received in the Mail. . . (Surprise, it’s food!) I’ve been looking for the perfect little something to include with the thank you notes I send to small business owners that collaborated with me and these McCrea’s Candies pillow boxes are just the thing. With flavors like Cape Code Sea Salt, Dark Roasted Mocha, and Single Malt Scotch, these gourmet caramels are mouth-watering and the packaging is on par. McCrea’s Candies’ canisters are always great teacher and hostess gifts! You can order on their website or find at a local store

Favorite Budget Find . . . This IKEA hand-woven accent rug for $39! It’s so neat in person and was the perfect thing to put in front of my desk. But, seriously, buy a rug pad. Otherwise your children will inevitably run through your office and end up surfing on the rug right into your glass desk. ?

Love the new pineapple design! I got this for my sister!

Been meaning to share . . . The cute baggage handle wraps from Barrington Gifts I customized for gifts recently. They are a great personalized gift for just $30. You can choose the design on the outside and there’s a place for contact info on the inside. Perfect for a unique graduation gift (as is the personalized laptop case I posted on Instagram this week).

Favorite Find . . . This maternity/nursing bra from Ingrid and Isabel. The last time I was pregnant I felt like the market was lacking. This one is so comfortable. I’ve been wearing it nonstop and I am not even nursing! For my non-pregnant friends, this Natori bra is my absolute favorite. Pricey but worth it.)

Best advice I heard . . . “You are their safe place,” said my mother when I was venting about my children earlier this week. “Be their safe place.”

As a mother, I feel like I do EVERYTHING and more for my girls and when they have an unwarranted (oftentimes disrespectful) emotional outburst I get miffed.

But didn’t we all take out our frustrations to our mothers when we were children? Everyone needs a sounding board for their emotions and a safe place to explore one’s thoughts and fears. For children that person is usually their mother.

So I had to ponder: am I truly a safe place for my girls in the emotional sense? Do I stay and listen to their nighttime worries on the edge of their bed (when I really want to shut all talking down and go to sleep myself?). Do I dismiss their childish fears as silly or irrational when I should be talking through them with love and grace? Can I refrain from reacting immediately with harsh judgement when they tell me they might have hurt a friend’s feelings that day? I want to be a safe place for my girls when they are teenagers, and have more “relatable” problems. But will I be if I brush off their un-relatable ones now? Probably not.

Favorite column of the week . . . from the local Preston Hollow People about not forgetting Mother’s Day.

Best Mother’s Day Weekend Sales . . .

Wisteria’s warehouse in Dallas is having a huge sale today and tomorrow! 10am – 3pm at 13780 Benchmark Drive in Farmers Branch. But you can also shop their “Favorite Things” sale online. The blue and white Chinese pot I posted on Instagram this week is now 30% off!

LOFT – 30% off site wide.

J.Crew Factory – extra 30% off already reduced prices with code HOORAYMAY when you spend $100.

Baby item I bought this week . . . Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Y’all may have seen my visit to Pottery Barn Kids this week with my mom. This whole not finding out the gender thing is hard! None of the neutral baby bedding appeals to me. Should I just wait to buy bedding until after the baby is born? (I can’t believe how laid back I am being about this baby!)

Last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas . . .

– Get a beautiful potted plant from a nice gardening store like Nicholson-Hardie or even Central Market in Dallas (or make your own!)

– Find the Angels Neilson Home line in a local store (link to stores in this post).

– Order a beautiful coffee table book on Amazon with same day shipping (or find at Barnes and Noble)

– Get one of my six favorite gifts from Nordstrom. Order online and select the “pick up in store” option to avoid fighting the weekend crowds.

-Manicure, spa, blow out gift certificate! (Nice with her favorite hair or nail product).

-Book a mother/daughter weekend getaway!

-For my Dallas, Austin, and Houston friends, pop in Saint Bernard – they have some some of my favorites gifts like LAFCO candles, Roberta Roller Rabbit, Bauble Bar earrings, and poolside accessories. FYI, Saint Bernard is having a great gift card gift online!

What I want for Mother’s Day . . . Sleep! Having terrible insomnia with this pregnancy. Any tips appreciated on that, too!

Happy Weekend and Happy Mother’s Day!

  1. Lee, have you looked at Restoration Hardware baby or Kristaben Baby bedding collections? I think both have lovely gender neutral options. I used a mix of both for my daughter and then my son, and plan to keep it all for baby 3! Kristaben bumper pads and crib skirts have a luxury / custom look, and RH has great quality neutral crib sheets (also bumpers and skirts too which I’ve seen in person and are good looking).
