Children’s Portrait Artist: Laura Arth

I believe a portrait of a child is truly one of the best gifts a mother can receive so I am thrilled to share about Texas-based pastel artist, Laura Arth, and how you can secure a spot for Mother’s Day gifting. And if you think a hand-painted portrait is out of your budget, keep reading for something VERY EXCITING!

Laura Arth has been painting her whole life, but it wasn’t until her retirement as a counselor from Texas A&M University – and at the urging of many friends – that she began devoting time to her portrait business. And it has truly taken off. How gorgeous are these paintings?!

Laura paints using a digital photo, preferably high-resolution from a professional photographer. This is wonderful news for moms who wish they had done a portrait of their children when they were younger. One of my biggest regrets is not having a portrait made of my oldest girl when she was little. So I am hoping to find a great photograph for Laura to use – I am so excited about it!

Using a technique called photo realism, Laura works from a grid, painting one tiny square at a time until she gets the likeness of the child just right. It’s fascinating how she meticulously replicates her subject inch by inch. What’s wonderful about Laura’s paintings is that your child’s hair can be cleaned up or if you have a different outfit you’d like on your child than the one in the photograph, she can change that, too!

When choosing a photo, Laura recommends using one that truly captures your child during childhood. You can see from some of the paintings in this post how she can paint both formal and more modern compositions.

Laura is a member of the Portrait Society of America and has studied under some of the best portrait artists in the country. She is so excited to be able to take on  6-8 portraits for pre- Mother’s Day delivery. She also offers gift certificates for people who want to give this treasured gift that will last a lifetime.

A few important details about Laura Art Portraits:
