Slow days, relaxing vacations, and plenty of down time — summer really is the perfect time to get lost in a good book. We know it can be hard to motivate tweens and teens to read, but rest assured that it is not impossible! With the right motivation and of course a good book, you can ignite your teen’s love of reading over the course of a summertime that will last a lifetime.

There’s nothing like reading for pleasure in the summertime, finding a book that checks all of the boxes we look for to match the easygoing nature of the season. Lighthearted, interesting, and most of all fun — a book you can take with you on vacation, to the pool, or read in the afternoons. So today our resident reader, Meg Thatcher, from the DSG team is sharing nine recommendations that certainly check all these boxes and more!

I have written a lot on the blog about reading aloud to children and how it’s an treasured tradition in our family. But I have never written a post specifically geared towards reading to babies. So today I am sharing some things I do with Louise!

Reading to my first baby did not come naturally to me. It often felt awkward (was she even listening??) and boring (I can’t say “Moo, La, La” one more time!). But over the years – and four children later – I have learned how to engage my baby with books in ways that is fun for the both of us, which is great because reading aloud to babies is shown to have an impact on a their overall cognitive development.

Today on the blog I am thrilled to welcome reading specialist, Leighanne Scheuermann, of Written and Bound to give us a few tips on how to get our children to enjoy and engage with poetry and nursery rhymes. She’s also taking over my Instastories later on to show us how she read these to her children!

When my first daughter was born my husband and I were living in Connecticut and, like many new moms, I was very isolated.
