A dollhouse is a big purchase and one that will hopefully last many years. Today we are rounding up the best dollhouses (much like our popular baby doll review post). My biggest tip for buying dollhouse during the holiday season: buy early because many of them sell out!
Let’s start with the Westport Dollhouse from Pottery Barn Kids. We’ve had it for 10 years and it’s still in great shape! Its minimalist interior design molds perfectly well with big imaginations. All the dollhouses at Pottery Barn Kids are lovely but the size of this one has been perfect for our space and enjoyed by all four of our girls. The furniture is sold separately, but the little sets are great to give as gifts through the years.
Beautifully constructed and sure to become an heirloom, Le Toy is a brand you will often see in fine children’s boutiques. The inside of Le Toy dollhouses are “decorated” with wallpaper and other beautiful details. Here’s a smaller option than the Cherry Tree dollhouse below and a great furniture set here.
I was skeptical of the quality of the Hearth & Hand dollhouse at Target, but friends who’ve purchased it said it’s great for the price (furniture is included). And, hooray, it’s back at Target again this season.
Another consistently great dollhouse brand is Melissa & Doug. The houses are well made, include furniture, and are reasonably priced. Think of this Melissa & Doug unisex dollhouse as an “open toy” in which children will make believe it’s more things than just a dollhouse. For example, it might be a firehouse or hotel. (Note: the Ikea dollhouse is another option along these lines.)
And whenever I have an Angel Tree that requests a dollhouse I buy this Melissa & Doug portable dollhouse. It’s a beautiful, compact house and includes furniture.
Note: Kidcraft is another popular dollhouse option. It is probably the best overall value in that it’s a big dollhouse for about $100 that comes with all the furniture. But assembly is required and the quality may not allow it to last as long as some of these others. If you have a Kidcraft dollhouse please comment below and let us know!
As for accessories, there are so many options. We like Pottery Barn Kids furniture but my girls prefer peg dolls as the people. There are lots of places to get cute peg dolls on Etsy! Here are some more dollhouse accessory options:

I love your gift guides! Thank you so much! What do you think is a good age for a dollhouse?
We gave our daughter at 2!
Thank you for this lovely breakdown! Very helpful.
I would love your thoughts on the best ages for a dollhouse, if you get a chance. My daughter turns 3 this month and loves her Calico Critter animal sets/house, so I think she’d enjoy a dollhouse For Christmas. BUT we are moving this spring so I hesitate to add another large toy to the mix and wonder if I can get away with waiting til next year?
