Do you feel like you’ve seen just about everything on Netflix at this point? Tapped out on 90’s romantic comedies? With Valentine’s Day coming up we thought it would be helpful to round up some swoon-worthy films that may not be in your normal rotation. Keep scrolling for a list of 10 romantic movies that will you make you swoon, laugh and maybe even cry (in a good way!).
Since this year’s Valentine’s plans are probably more low key than in the past, it’s the perfect year to plan a romantic movie date night. Grab takeout from your favorite restaurant, cozy up on the couch after the kids are in bed, and put on one of these great films.
The good news is all of these are available on Amazon to rent, and some are free if you are an Amazon Prime member!
1. Splendor in the Grass
Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty star in this love story set in the Roaring Twenties (the 1920s, that is!). If you haven’t seen this coming-of-age drama, it’s a must watch!
2. Bringing Up Baby
Remember in Father of the Bride when Annie tells her parents she met her fiancé at a showing of Bringing Up Baby? I assume Nancy Meyers was paying homage to what may be the original romantic comedy! It’s got old Hollywood glamour in spades (Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant are the stars) — so this would be a fun one to watch dressed up in your Valentine’s Day finest!
3. Romancing the Stone
It’s a campy 80’s film, yes, but it’s such a fun watch with Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito, and Kathleen Turner in a romantic-adventure-comedy. If traditional love stories aren’t your Valentine’s Day date’s thing, then this is for you!
4. Love Story
On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, this one requires a tissue box (or two!). If weepy romances are your cup of tea, then this is the movie for you.
5. The Way We Were
Barbara Streisand. Robert Redford. Need we say more? We love this opposites attract movie — and live for the moment “The Way We Were” starts playing every time we watch!
6. Pride & Prejudice
There have been many adaptations of Pride & Prejudice over the years, but the film version starring Keira Knightley is visually so beautiful! And, we’re just not sure it gets more romantic than Mr. Darcy. Might be fun to watch with your teen daughter, too!
Included with Amazon Prime showtime subscription. The 1980 version is free!
7. Sense & Sensibility
And if one Jane Austen movie simply isn’t enough, then add this one to your watchlist, too! Another beautiful film adaptation, starring some of our favorite English actors.
8. Romeo and Juliet
Whether you prefer the 1968 version or the 1996 Baz Luhrman version with Leo, you can’t go wrong with this classic star-crossed love story.
9. An Affair to Remember
Part Sleepless in Seattle, part Love Story. And you’re going to need all the tissues you’ve got when you watch this classic film!
10. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
The perfect Galentine’s Day movie! Watch with friends, pour a glass of champagne or sparkling cider, throw on your favorite sunglasses. You can’t go wrong with this delightful Audrey Hepburn film!
Those are just some of our favorite, perfect-for-Valentine’s-Day films! What are yours? Let us know if we’ve missed any of your top romantic movies so we can add them to our watch list!
