Gifts that “give back” make gift-giving so much more meaningful. Today I am highlighting some of my favorite gifts that give back in DoSayGive’s Holiday Gift Guide as well as sharing the details about a Dallas Holiday Market that is giving back to refugee families in Dallas.
Each month I choose one non-profit to highlight on DoSayGive. Heart House is a local charity here in Dallas that provides safety, education, and opportunity to refugee and underprivileged children in the Dallas area. This nonprofit began in the 1990s when their founders, Suzanne Kiefer and Anna Land, volunteered in the Vickery Meadow community. It was clear that there was a need for a program like Heart House where the employees and volunteers at Heart House recognize that each child is unique, gifted and full of potential. With this mindset, and resources provided by donation, they are able to equip these children and encourage them to continue to grow.
The second annual Bold Strokes Silent Art Auction and Market will be held this Saturday, November 17 to raise money for Heart House. It’s a wonderful chance to do some Christmas shopping while giving back. Some of my favorite local businesses are taking part including Joy Creative Shop, Carrie Song Art, and GAIA Empowered Women. The market will take place at Common Desk (2919 Commerce Street) from 4-7 pm. Read more details about the Bold Strokes Silent Art Auction and Market and how to purchase tickets here.
DoSayGive’s Holiday Gift Guide has so many wonderful gifts that give back. Read about some of them below:
Gaia Heart Purse
GAIA’s beautiful, handmade gifts are made by refugee women that have resettled in Dallas. GAIA empowers these woman through meaningful employment and sustainable wages. This sweet heart purse is on my Gift Guide for Girls and I love the bright colors in it. Make sure you visit the GAIA website for other beautiful gifts for women of all ages, like these hairties that would make wonderful stocking stuffers or these monogrammed pouches, perfect for friends and neighbors. They are also vendors at Bold Strokes.
Akola
Akola is another local nonprofit that helps women in poverty in Dallas and in Uganda. 100% of the money you spend on their jewelry is reinvested in their mission to help empower women and the children that depend on them. I have been wearing these black tassel earrings all the time lately because I love the simple statement they make. There are so many different jewelry styles that would be perfect gifts for any woman. I also love these little DIY Bracelet Jars that would be so fun for a little girl!
Foto Strap
FOTO creates beautiful leather goods that help people tell their stories. I love my beautiful leather camera strap from Fotostrap and I also love their mission. 10% of their profits go supports Fotolanthropy, which helps spread awareness and tell stories of resilient families, such as veterans and families who have experienced a family member with a rare disease. Shop their classic leather camera strap here(pictured above) or their beautiful totes here.
Bombas
Bombas are my parents’ favorite sock brand! I’ve included a few different styles in the Holiday Gift Guide in a few different categories. In addition to making wonderful socks, they donate one pair of socks for every one pair purchased because socks are one of the number one things requested from homeless shelters. They have since donated over 10 million pairs of socks to people in need. This dress sock pack is perfect for men. These cute, cozy socks would be great as a stocking stuffer and I love this holiday sock gift box for kids!
Cuddle + Kind
Cuddle + Kind is one of my favorite companies for so many reasons, but most of all, I love their mission. After hearing devastating statistics about child hunger, Cuddle + Kind wanted to make a difference. By purchasing one of their sweet dolls, you are providing 10 meals for a hungry child. They have donated over 3 million meals to over 66 countries around the world. I love this unicorn doll for girls and this sweet lamb doll for boys!
Skylar
Skylar is creates beautiful, hypoallergenic fragrances with clean and conscious ingredients. They also work together with an organization called Step Up, which helps provide mentorship for underprivileged high school females in the United States. They have so many fabulous fragrance sets on their website, including this Holiday 6-pack Collection in DoSayGive’s Stocking Stuffer Guide. Skylar also recently did a collaboration with Sprinkles Cupcakes to create this Vanilla candle scent. How fun would it be to pair this with a cupcake as a gift for a friend?
