As fall beckons us to start changing out our staple wardrobes pieces, for many of us, it also means we also have to start thinking about our husbands’ wardrobes, too. Today I am sharing a favorite new brand of my (extremely) picky husband.
Ever since I’ve known him, my husband has always dressed pretty conservatively, even on weekends. Y’all know I love classic style, but the rotation of golf shirts, khaki pants, and button down shirts in about three shades of boring has been pretty difficult to overcome!
Thankfully over time my husband has loosened up a bit. (I think living in California helped!). He still wants to dress in classic staples, but at the same time, he doesn’t want to come across as too stuffy and wants to dress his age. So when I heard about a brand named johnnie-O – known for their “west coast prep” style, I knew it would be perfect for my husband.
Although I know it’s a favorite brand among many celebrities, the main reason I like johnnie-O is that pretty much everything in the line can be mixed and matched to make different looks without having to buy a ton of pieces. They also have a “Style Guide” on their website to help men (and wives like me!) get ideas on to do this easily.
My husband loves a good vest in the winter, especially since it’s really not cold enough in Dallas to wear a coat on most days. So a go-to look for him on the weekends – and casual Fridays – consists of jeans, a button-down shirt, and a vest.
Johnnie-O’s Coastal Vest is great for him because it isn’t too thick. A perfect layering piece to keep on indoors and out.
I chose gray because it’s a good neutral he can wear often, but it made me so happy that he loved the marine-colored Cooper Button-Down shirt I chose to go with it. Such a happy color on those drab fall days!
Oh and If you don’t know about johnnie-O button-downs, I have to tell you about the Tweener button It is a hidden placket between the second and third button that “bridges the gap between too buttoned up and not buttoned-up enough.”
Another thing my husband wears a lot of during the fall and winter months is a good pull-over. This johnnie-O 1/4 zip one is also a nice weight. I love that he can wear a t-shirt, a polo or button-down shirt under it – depending on his mood, the occasion, and the weather!
I think one of the things he is most excited about is these johnnie-O Napa pants. Described on their website as “good enough for the country club but with an updated fabric and johnnie-O cut,” these pants come in several great everyday shades (including khaki!). Not baggy, but not super slim either, they are are perfect for my husband and his favorite boots.
For colder climates, johnnie-O’s Filmore Cords in the same style and cut.
If your husband, boyfriend, or dad is a golfer, don’t want to miss johnnie-O’s prep-performance polos ($75-79) for fabulous gifts. The founder of johnnie-O is an avid golfer and set out to create a moisture-wicking performance polo without the sheen.
My sister has been dressing her boys (and husband!) in johnnie-O for a while now. And I’ve seen lots of little boys around Dallas wearing johnnie-O polos. You can even do father/son coordinating which is cute for photos and vacations! See all their boys’ clothing here.
You can order the entire johnnie-O line on their website and shipping is free when you spend over $125. If you’re like me, you order a bunch of things online and let him try on and then send back what doesn’t work! (Note: I have found that johnnie-O runs true to size.) Definitely don’t miss the other outwear pieces from johnnie-O; a crisp jacket or zip up fleece in a handsome color is an easy thing to add to “spruce up” any wardrobe for fall.
