How to Create a Festive and Inexpensive Children’s Thanksgiving Table

Entertaining

I want to share a casual and inexpensive children’s table you can easily recreate at home using home decor and entertaining items from eBay and Amazon. This is a table ripe with activities and traditions and lots of Thanksgiving fun for our little ones!

Growing up my mom and grandmother always made the children’s table at holiday gatherings so special and fun. I loved getting dressed up and acting “grown up.”

Instead of stressing about a children’s table and chair, I pulled out a big ottoman on the patio and used throw pillows for the seats, all available on eBay. So easy and children love it!

As for a tablecloth, save money by using a fall plaid throw blanket. That’s what I call multi-purpose!

A basket of cozy blankets is a must for outdoor Thanksgiving celebrations! Ebay has so many with free shipping.

These Tiny Expressions Thankful placemats pretty much made the table – all I added were some pumpkins and a vase of mums.

As for activities, put a bowl of colored pencils on the table and they can fill out their placemats with everything they are thankful for and fun memories from years past. These placemats have even more activities for all ages like word searches, cross word puzzles and tic tac toes.

Thanksgiving at our house isn’t complete without some of our favorite classic children’s books about Thanksgiving. I buy so many of our favorite children’s books new and used on eBay. It’s a great source for those sweet older books that are hard to find!

What else makes for a fun outdoor Thanksgiving for children (so adults can enjoy food and conversation!). Order some Pilgrim costumes from eBay and make it even more imaginative for children. Funny how many giggles can come from a pair of costume spectacles.

Other outdoor activity ideas for children:

  • Sack races
  • Jump rope contests
  • Flag football
  • Take a nature walk
  • Go around the table and say what they are thankful for.
  • Read George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation.
  • Games like Slammo are great for all ages.
  • Play a game of Cornhole
  • Thanksgiving themed scavenger hunt.
