Holiday Style and Gifts from Julie Vos

I was first introduced to Julie Vos jewelry last year and immediately fell in love with the line. Something about the modern twist on the classic look of gold hoops and link necklaces appealed to me. So today I am sharing a few of my favorite pieces from the line as well as a little interview I was lucky enough to conduct with Julie last week while she was in Texas. Last week Julie Vos was in Ft. Worth for a trunk show at Lawrence’s Gift so I was thrilled to be able to ask her a few questions for my readers:

DoSaGive: One of the things that’s so impressive about your line is that it appeals to a wide range of ages. What is it about your jewelry that appeals to the 25 year-old-fashion blogger and my 62 year old mother?

Julie Vos: In the beginning, when I first start having trunk shows, it was always three generations that came in: the twenty-something daughter, the fifty-something mother, and the grandmother, and there was always something for everybody. The youngest would get the pearl studs, the middle generation would get the chunky chains, as would the grandmother, who also would want clip-ons! The whole family is often going to have the same aesthetic. My mother and my daughter wear [Julie Vos] but we all prefer different things within the line.

Stacking bracelets is so popular right now. Is there an art to stacking?

Three is our ideal unless it’s chunky, then you want two. You always want to have contrasting things so that way you can see both things. It’s like the way a painter paints with contrasting colors – you want two different forms that compliment each other, but contrast each other as well.

So you can have too many bracelets? Sometimes I seem women wearing six or more!

Well that’s somebody’s look. And those people really work at it! And they move together beautifully. But it’s like getting dressed, you have to work at it and use your eye.

As for gift ideas, if you aren’t sure what someone’s aesthetic is, what is a piece in your line that pretty much any woman would enjoy?

I would say a link. A hammered link bracelet you can wear with anything – it looks great with skinny bangles. I have a link on every day. Honestly, the big links I don’t wear every day but whenever I travel I’ll take a few. What’s great about the links is they look great with watches. Another idea is this hammered hoop, which I wear everyday.
