What Every Teen Needs to Know About Dating, Manners, and Respect

Motherhood and Children

Over the years, we’ve heard countless stories from parents about the challenges around teen dating, dances, and social interactions. We listened – and we’re here to help! We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new dating etiquette e-books for teen boys and girls called Character and Confidence: Dating Guides for Teens! Whether it’s asking someone to homecoming, going on a first date, or just learning how to communicate with respect, these guides help teens build confidence and character in social interactions. They’re quick and easy to read and they set teens up for success in this season and for years to come!

The Current (Confusing) State of Dating

If you’ve been around teens recently, you know the dating landscape has changed dramatically. Ghosting and “situationships” are common. So much happens behind screens often because teens don’t know how to navigate face-to-face conversations. These behaviors often lead to hurt feelings, awkward situations, and the risk for poor reputations that follow them long after high school.

Why It’s Important to Teach Teens These Things

As parents, we want our children to be successful in all areas of life. We spend so much time focusing on their academics and extracurriculars in the teen years, but what truly is going to set them apart in a tech-heavy world is their social skills: their ability to have face-to-face conversations, the confidence to navigate up social gatherings, and the knowledge of what to do and say and life’s everyday situations. This especially applies to dating! There is so little guidance (and a lot of confusion) right now on how boys and girls should socialize and date so that’s why we created these quick guides – one for teen girls and one for teen boys.

What’s in the E-Books:

We designed these guides (one for girls and one for boys) to teach teens the following skills:

  • Clear lessons on communication – in person, over text, and on social media
  • Respect and self-respect – the foundation of character and reputation
  • What to do for dances like homecoming – from manners, to traditions, to being a good date
  • How to actually go on a date – planning, manners, date ideas conversation starters, and follow-through
  • Scripts for tricky situations – asking someone out, saying “no” graciously, or even breaking up kindly

Even if they don’t go on their first date for a few years, they need to know and practicing many of these skills things now, skills and habits that will not only help them build social confidence before they enter college but will help them build a solid reputation.

Why Parents Need Another Voice:

Many teens tune out their parents when it comes to dating do’s and don’ts. That’s where a fresh, “expert” voice can make all the difference – someone who echoes your values and makes sure all the little manners and social skills they need to know are covered. Because, let’s face it, as parents we can’t remember to teach them everything!

And here’s the best part: the e-books are only only $9.97 – an easy investment for skills and confidence your teen will carry for a lifetime. These guides are short, easy to read, and filled with actionable advice teens can start using immediately, including scripts on “what to say” in various situations. (So helpful!)

When boys and girls know what to do and say it makes social situations much easier for them. These guides are a step toward giving them the tools they need to thrive – without stress or confusion.
