In the season of giving, nothing warms the heart and home like homemade edibles gifts. Today Kristen Massad from Ink Foods is sharing a Homemade Holiday Cookie Gift Box and a way to gift cookie dough so friends can slice and bake their own homemade cookies!
I do love the hustle and bustle that this season brings and, more than anything, I love all the baking that comes out of my kitchen. With the thousands of gifts that can be purchased, sometimes a homemade gift full of holiday cookies is the most special gift of all. There is something magical about holiday cookies, family traditions, special memories and long lost recipes that are only served during the holidays. I am excited to share with you two ways to gift your favorite cookies this season and all year long!
Homemade Slice + Bake Cookies
Homemade Slice + Bake “Ice Box” Cookies can be enjoyed immediately or stored in the refrigerator for later. These Chocolate Cranberry Shortbread Slice + Bake Cookies or these Brown Sugar Pecan Slice + Bake Cookies would be thoughtful neighbor or family friend gifts. Even a great hostess gifts!
Follow the recipe (or use your favorite cookie recipe) to prepare the dough and then roll the dough into wax paper to create a log. Once the dough has chilled, decorate the wax paper with twine and gift tags for a sweet treat to share.
Homemade Holiday Cookie Gift Boxes
Putting together several of your favorite cookies in a box seems simple, but the secret to making it special is the presentation. There is no need to be a master baker for this gift. Homemade, store bought or a combination of both, the variety will make your box so festive for holiday gifting. So turn on some Christmas music and have a fun afternoon making these boxes with your children for all your neighbor and teacher gifts! Here’s how:
- Cookies: Gather or make several of your favorite cookies, I like a variety of flavors, texture and sizes to be sure that everyone can find one they love. A few of my favorites: Molasses Blossom Cookies, Gingerbread Cut Out Cookies, Kipfuls, French Macarons, Peppermint Meringue Cookies, Italian Baci Cookies.
- Wrap it up: a wood crate or this crate (min. order 6), metal tin, a simple paper box even a decorative Christmas platter will all make a sweet gift to hand deliver. If needed, wrap the entire thing in clear wrap and tie with a ribbon!
- Signed, Sealed + Delivered: Add a handwritten or personalized gift tag to let them know that you created this gift just for them and deliver it right in time for a family gathering, Christmas Eve celebration or perfect for a Christmas morning treat!
Enjoy!

How do you keep the rolled dough good safe? Won’t it pretty much defrost right away?
Hi Lauren! Once you have made the dough you can roll in it wax paper or if you are going to freeze it I would roll it in plastic wrap first and then wax paper for a decorative look. Once you are ready to bake the cookies, you can let the dough sit out for 5-10 minutes. Thank you!
