I was so flattered when Nordstrom asked me to share the clothing and shoe essentials I buy my children this time of year. Last week I showed y’all the cutest back to school dresses, tops, and jeans. Today I am sharing the standard “uniform” for elementary and middle school children in Dallas these days (i.e. what kids really want to wear!).

My close friends and I all dressed our little girls in smocked dresses and monogrammed everything. Now we all laugh because those same girls only want to wear gym shorts and tee shirts. Yes, “athleisure” is not just for adults. Drive by any elementary school in my neighborhood and you’ll see it’s the same thing with the boys: all casual, all the time.
So my traditional clothes loving heart has had to learn to let go a little. My daughter wears a uniform to school, but after school and on the weekends shorts and tees are what she wants to wear. Thankfully, though, my sweet girl still wears a bow with her casual looks!
Nordstrom is the perfect place to buy athleisure clothes for kids. Their free shipping and free returns allow me to buy what I think she will like – and return what she doesn’t – at our convenience. And Nordstrom’s high-quality brands last wash after wash and are able to be passed down to siblings and cousins.
Coordinating is optional when it comes to the athleisure look for kids. Usually my daughter just pulls a school tee out of her drawer, but I couldn’t help herself with this cute Nike outfit.
These shorts come in two cute patterns and my purple-loving daughter picked out these Nike shoes.
When shopping for fall I also like to stock up on leggings for all my girls. Tea Collection leggings are great for my younger two daughters, and hold up so well, but my nine-year-old is moving into more athletic leggings (which is what all the middle school girls are wearing in our neighborhood so it’s no surprise that’s what my fourth grader wants to wear, too!).
The Zella brand at Nordstrom has so many cute styles. She likes to pair them with a casual tee or a long sleeve tunic. (Note: there are also several Zella sports bras on sale!).
Other things I bought at Nordstrom this time of year: ruffled socks, fold over socks, underwear, and uniform saddle oxfords. Oh and, of course, have to get my three-year-old white, T-strap Keds.
To make sure fall shopping easier, I’ve pulled boys and girls shorts, tees, and shoes – several on sale!
