Citrus-Inspired Traditional Christmas Tablescape

A Citrus-Inspired, Traditional Christmas Tablescape

Entertaining

A beautiful table helps make friends and family feel special, like true guests of honor. I remember my mom and aunt set their Thanksgiving table at least ahead of time so it can be enjoyed more than just a few hours.  For Christmas I do the same. By the time my girls get out for Christmas break my table is usually set. Today I am thrilled to share a citrus-inspired traditional Christmas tablescape I created with Drees Homes using Fenwick Fields’ gorgeous placemats. Good news: this week only you can get 20% off Fenwick Fields placemats and napkins with code DSG20!

I’ve always loved citrus and pinecones in holiday decor and tablescapes. They are an expensive way of adding interest and nature’s beauty to a table, no matter the season.

There are many origin stories about oranges at Christmas — one is that the tradition of the “Christmas orange” began during the Great Depression, as these sweet fruits were hard to come by, so the addition of an orange in a Christmas stocking was considered a luxury. (A tradition my family still enjoys!) Oranges are also said to represent the gift of gold, or generosity, from Saint Nicholas. No matter which story you prefer, they both stem from a place of gratitude for the simple things in life. Something I know we all strive to remember during this often hectic season.

Fenwick Fields’ classic scalloped placemats add an instant dose of festivity to the table whether you choose the rosebud red or cornflower blue variety. I pair them with Fenwick Fields’ linen scalloped square napkins to tie each place setting together — and the best part is that I’m able to use them year after year.

This year I worked with Dallas-based florist Claire Rathbun to bring my holiday tabletop vision to life. I love the use of fresh greenery — it’s classic, elegant, and smells incredible — and Claire created a gorgeous flower arrangement to be the focal point. With the addition of gold tapered candlesticks and pinecones, the whole table just feels warm and welcoming. The kind of table you want to spend hours at, sharing a meal and making memories.

If you are in Dallas, Claire Rathbun offers in home floral arrangements this holiday and season as well as a Claire floral gift subscriptions!

I love this Frontgate Christmas tree especially for an accent tree. I coordinated the tree decor to go with the colors of the table using Bauble Stockings and red acrylic cardinals from Fig & Dove as a way to honor and remember those family members who are no longer with us.

I hope this gives you inspiration for your own holiday tablescape!
